As the 2009 season draws to its close it has been a season of fairly mixed results but also very busy building some more FIA cars ready for 2010.

We had one Aston Martin competing at the Le Mans Legends (on the morning of the main Le Mans 24 Hour event) on Saturday 13th June, this was the light green Andy Sharp's DB2 - 8 EMU.

After a practice cut short by ignition problems Andy took the DB2 to a fine 3rd in class behind two C Type Jaguars & 26th overall. He was the fastest 1950's Aston in front of two DB3's & two DB2's.

This success was compounded by using brake drums on the front  (instead of brake discs, the car's more normal AMOC fitting) for the first time, in fact it may have been Andy's first drive in any car fitted with front brake drums.

For full results visit Motor Racing Legends site (listed below) & look up Le Mans Legends results.

We had two cars in Duncan Wiltshires Woodcote Trophy at Spa - see www.motorracinglegends.com - in September at the Six Hour event, Andrew Sharp's DB2 8 EMU which finished a creditable 21st & 4th in class after a drive through penalty, he narrowly missed on 20th place & 3rd in class after not realising the DB3 in front was his opposition.

We also took Jean & Chris's DB2 MYT 625 ('arguably the most succesful Club Racing Feltham Aston ever' Alan Wheatley - AMOC DB2 reunion 2001)  for Chris & Steve Bamford to drive, unfortunatley a rear tyre tube failed just after Steve over from Chris, this put the car into the tyre wall at Rivage on the 9th lap, Steve was luckily unhurt but badly shaken up, it was still classified as a finisher in 39th & last place.

The car is quite badly damaged & already has been stripped of its bonnet, body & all its running gear, the chassis has been blasted & the damage assessed - the steel box section is being made (15/10/09) this will also be sueful for other damaged Aston's - see more of this on www.myt625.co.uk - a website for this car giving its history from new & all of its results as we know them.

We had one car out the day after Spa at AMOC Curborough, 8 EMU which Jean drove for the first time, she picked up the Ladies Sprint Rose Bowl after stiff competition from Anne Reed, Briony Serrell & Diane Bailey-Watts, Chris drove the car in the Feltham class & Histroric class - he got severely outclased by a superb effort & new record from David Reed in the Feltham class but managed to salvage a little pride with the Historic Handicap, all this after a lunchtime gearbox change for a broken 3rd gear.

The next weekend (03/10/09) we took 8 EMU to Oulton Park after fitting the brake discs, giving the car a wash & polish + a level check from its Spa & Curborough outings.

Andy qualified just behind David Reed on pole in the AMOC Historic Championship race, after a poor start Andy eventually took the lead for half a lap but was ousted from 1st (the circuit) by David who took the win a lap later. This still isn't bad for a genuine FIA car which is relatively std except for the brake discs & Weber carbs for the AMOC Meeting.

Well done to David & Andy for possibly the closest, most exciting racing of that weekend.
